THE TYRO LAWYER 16 -18 Mentoring Programme 

The Tyro Lawyer mentoring programme for students in 6th form or college (16- 18 year olds) is meant to connect young people to legal professionals who will provide guidance and support to students as they begin their journeys in this profession. 

Through 1-1 online meetings twice a month and for three months, mentees will have the opportunity to interact with a legal professional and learn from someone who has 'been there, done that and got the tee-shirt'. 

OBJECTIVES

• To improve access to the legal profession for students in the west midlands
• To improve access to mentors and credible role models for identified students interested in a career in law
• To help develop employability skills to successfully complete applications for university, apprenticeships and work experience, v for identified students

HOW IT WORKS

Once paired, mentors will meet virtually with their mentees twice monthly for 1 hour, to discuss career ambitions, provide advice and direction, assist with UCAS and apprenticeship application drafting, whatever is needed.

Each pairing is for a period of 3 months. 

Applications for the Tyro Lawyer 16 -18 Mentoring programme open on 1st September.

Closing date for all applications: Friday 25th September, 2026.
