THE TYRO LAWYER PLUS SCHEME
The Tyro Lawyer mentoring programme is excited to announce its Birmingham Black Lawyers partnership, which aims to provide undergraduate law mentorship to aspiring legal professionals.
This collaboration presents a fantastic opportunity to offer guidance and support specifically for students from ethnic minority backgrounds as they embark on their legal careers.
Through our Birmingham Black Lawyers partnership, mentees will gain access to exclusive legal mentoring opportunities, along with events and resources designed to enhance their knowledge of the legal field.
OBJECTIVES
To improve access to the legal profession for students from ethnic minority backgrounds.
To connect identified students interested in a career in law with mentors and credible role models.
To assist in developing employability skills vital for completing applications for apprenticeships, work experience, vacation schemes, and mini pupillages for the selected students.
HOW IT WORKS
Mentors and mentees will meet virtually once a month for an hour, where they will discuss career ambitions, provide advice and direction, and assist with CV/application drafting based on individual needs.
Each mentorship pairing lasts for 6 months.
During this time, mentees will also enjoy free or discounted entry to select Birmingham Black Lawyers events, culminating in an Insight Evening or open day at a leading law firm at the conclusion of the programme.

Applications for the Tyro Lawyer Plus 5 Scheme for the 2026/2027 cohort are now open.
Closing date for applications: 31st October 2026.
We reserve the right to close this application cycle early if we receive sufficient applications from suitable students. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.
