THE TYRO LAWYER PLUS SCHEME

The Tyro Lawyer mentoring programme is pleased to partner with Birmingham Black Lawyers to offer mentoring to undergraduate students aspiring to a career in the legal profession. 

This partnership offers an exciting opportunity to provide guidance and support to students from ethnic minority backgrounds as they begin their journeys in this profession. 

Our partnership with Birmingham Black Lawyers will allow our mentees to access exclusive events and opportunities to develop their knowledge of the legal profession. 

 
OBJECTIVES

• To improve access to the legal profession for students from ethnic minority backgrounds
• To improve access to mentors and credible role models for identified students interested in a career in law
• To help develop employability skills to successfully complete applications for  apprenticeships, work experience, vacation schemes and mini pupillages for identified students

HOW IT WORKS

Once paired, mentors will meet virtually with their mentees monthly for 1 hour, to discuss career ambitions, provide advice and direction, assist with cv/application drafting, whatever is needed.

Each pairing is for a period of 6 months. 

Mentees will also have free/discounted entry to select BBL events during this period, and will be invited to attend an Insight Evening/open day at a leading law firm at the end of the programme.

Closing date for applications: Monday 30th September 2024.
